Grilled French Onion Dip

Serve a grilled French onion dip at your next party or family gathering. The grilled onions add a great flavor to traditional French onion dip.

French onion dip commonly served at just about any gathering – baby showers, bridal showers, football games and BBQ parties. It’s easy to mix up and people love it! So next time you need to make a quick dip, make this grilled French onion dip. It’ll be the talk of all dips.

There’s one added step to making a grilled dip… Grill the onions… The grilled onions will add a great taste and texture to your dip.

Tip: Make sure to allow the grilled components of the dip to cool completely before adding them to any mayonnaise/sour cream mixture. And once you add the grilled ingredients, be sure to place the dip directly into the refrigerator so that it does not heat up.


  • 1 large sweet onion (i.e. Vidalia), peeled, sliced into ½-inch slices
  • 16 oz. French Onion Dip
  • olive oil


  • Brush sliced onions with olive oil.
  • Over moderately high heat, grill the onion slices. Grill on both sides until they are well browned and even slightly blackened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Chop the onions into a small dice.
  • Add the onions to the French onion dip and mix to combine.
  • Serve with potato chips.
