Grilled Chocolate Cake

Quick and easy grilled chocolate cake recipe is cooked outside on a SABER Grill. This cake includes basic ingredients but has a rich chocolatey taste.

Why grill a chocolate cake? Because you can! So don’t question the why. Just grill your cake outside and take the heat out of the kitchen and all the flavor outside. This grilled chocolate cake has a rich chocolate flavor that everyone will enjoy.

Chef Timothy Grandinetti is making mini chocolate cakes in 8-inch cast iron skillets, but you can use a 12.5-inch or larger skillet for a larger cake everyone can try. He’s made it a simple chocolate cake with basic ingredients you may already have at home – chocolate, eggs, butter and sugar.

Serve this mini chocolate cake warm with a big scoop of ice cream. You can even try tasty toppings like strawberries and whipped cream or even mini chocolate chips for extra chocolate.


  • 1 lb. of dark chocolate, melted
  • 1 lb. of butter, melted
  • 6 whole eggs
  • 10 egg yolks
  • ½ lb. sugar


  • Mix melted butter and sugar until sugar is dissolved
  • Mix in the whole eggs until combined.
  • Mix in the additional egg yolks.
  • Add melted chocolate slowly whisking thoroughly
  • Grease an 8-inch cast iron skillet and pour batter into the skillet (80% full)
  • Cook at medium low temperature (350°-450° F on the grill)
  • Half of the Saber® grill should be on medium heat and half of the grill should be on low heat (dual zone cooking)
  • Place skillet on the grill and close the lid
  • 12-14 minutes of cooking time
