Ingredients

  • 4 turkey legs
  • Spice Rub Ingredients
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoons Kosher salt
  • 1 Tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Apple Cider Glaze
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grainy Dijon mustard
  • Pinch of Kosher salt
  • Dash of cayenne

Directions

  • Combine rub ingredients and mix with you’re a spoon or your fingers until incorporated.
  • Pat turkey legs dry, and then rub them with your spice rub.
  • Allow legs to sit on the counter for 20-30 minutes.
  • In the meantime, combine glaze ingredients in a small pot and reduce by half. Set aside once done.
  • Heat grill to medium and cook legs on indirect heat. Cook time will vary based on the size/weight of your legs. Typically they take 45-60 minutes (or an internal temperature of 165 degrees F).
  • Watch your legs. The sugar may cause the skin to char up in spots (which we find delicious). If your legs become golden, you can move them to your upper rack to finish cooking (over indirect heat) and lower then temperature to low heat.
  • At about the 30 minute mark baste your legs with the glaze, baste them two more times before they finish and once again when you pull them off the grill.
  • Allow the legs to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Note: I find when cooking legs on indirect heat, I do not need to place tin foil over the bottom of the drumsticks. However you can certainly do that for the first 20-25 minutes if you choose.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving!
